World War II (WWII) was a global war, starting in 1939, and ending in 1945. It involved members from all Continents, save South America and Antarctica. This meant that it was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100,000,000 (100 Million) people and 30 countries included.
The fatalities in WWII make it the war with the most casualties, with 60,000,000/80,000,000(60/80 Million) (2.5% of the human population) deaths. This includes 6,000,000 Jews. The below are the deaths of each country:

Pre-War
Adolf Hitler had gained control of Germany by exploiting flaws in Germany's weak political system after World War I (WWI), due to the massive debt they owed to the other Europeans. Hitler promised the Germans that they would all have jobs and would not have to pay the debt. This, as well as "disposing" of other Parties, made the people vote for the Germans Worker Department, renamed the Nazi Party. Later on, their symbol changed when Hitler designed the swastika, in a white circle, inside a red square, as he used to want to be an artist before WWI.
Being in charge of Germany, Hitler made the people's votes backfire on them. He made most of the men into soldiers, once they became of age, and had most women mind their children so they could be soldiers, and by going to war and conquering Europe, there wouldn't be anyone to pay the debt to.
First Hitler made an agreement with Japan against Communism, then he signed a Non-Agression pact with Russia, in exchange giving them half of whatever he captured.
After displaying autocratic movements, the Governments (British, Russian, French, German, Polish, etc) met. In return of Hitler not rampaging through most Europe, they gave him half of Czechoslovakia, note that the Czechs weren't in this meeting, so they were surprised when German soldiers marching in on them.
Next Hitler defied the recent agreement. He sent out his army and conquered the rest of Czechoslovakia, as well as Austria, though these were not near the majority of the Allied forces in the war, as such, they let it pass.
Next Hitler needed an excuse to invade Poland, but it was an Allied Country, ready to attack him if needs be. He planned a stage for a German in Polish Colours shoot a man pretending to be a German.
On the 1st of September, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, though WWII had yet to start. The Allies wanted to accept the Peace Treaty Italy had proposed to stop Germans from invading Polish territory by letting keep what the stole from the Polish, however Britain, unlike the other Allies, wanted Germany to remove their presence completely from Poland. This caused Germany to keep on attacking, and on September the 3rd, The war was officially declared between Allied and Axis Powers.
