Today children in the school will be selling their books, second-hand. What will happen is that children will sell books and use the money to buy book for themselves. To buy the 6th class books second-hand you will have to pay around 8 euro for Mathemagic 6, 5 euro 50 for Earthlinks 6 (only the textbook, not the workbook), and 6 euro for Alive-O 8 and again only the textbook, not the workbook. Diving Bell
Tom Steele was born on the third of November 1788 in Derrymore, Tulla, Co. Clare the son of a protestant landlord. Steele was a fiery passionate man with an eccentric streak which drove him at a fast pace throughout his life. A graduate of Cambridge University and never a person to sit still, he was an author, inventor of the diving bell (left), Spanish war veteran and a companion and accountant to Daniel O'Connell who was fighting hard for Catholic Emancipation (freeing someone from the control of another). In 1828 he seconded O'Connell's nomination for the county of Clare, after which the friendship grew and Steele was by the Liberator's side when the new Catholic Relief Bill was passed a year later. Steele's Rock is a landmark in Ennis that has driven people to write epic poems to tell the world about their pain and troubles that they have or are going through. However Tom Steele was totally deluded and instead wrote a letter to Pope Pius VII, the pope at the time, telling him to change to protestant, another religion, sold his estate and went to join the army, strange. Every evening for several weeks in 1821 the love-struck Mr.Steele would sit on the rock and look up at the bedroom window of Miss Matilda Crowe in the hope of being rewarded with a sign of encouragement from Miss Crowe. Today, the window can be seen just above the sign for Steele's Pub at the elbow of the River Fergus. Samuel Marks
WWII Anti-Tank Artillery
World War II (WWII) was a global war, starting in 1939, and ending in 1945. It involved members from all Continents, save South America and Antarctica. This meant that it was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100,000,000 (100 Million) people and 30 countries included. The fatalities in WWII make it the war with the most casualties, with 60,000,000/80,000,000(60/80 Million) (2.5% of the human population) deaths. This includes 6,000,000 Jews. The below are the deaths of each country: Pre-War Adolf Hitler had gained control of Germany by exploiting flaws in Germany's weak political system after World War I (WWI), due to the massive debt they owed to the other Europeans. Hitler promised the Germans that they would all have jobs and would not have to pay the debt. This, as well as "disposing" of other Parties, made the people vote for the Germans Worker Department, renamed the Nazi Party. Later on, their symbol changed when Hitler designed the swastika, in a white circle, inside a red square, as he used to want to be an artist before WWI.
Being in charge of Germany, Hitler made the people's votes backfire on them. He made most of the men into soldiers, once they became of age, and had most women mind their children so they could be soldiers, and by going to war and conquering Europe, there wouldn't be anyone to pay the debt to. First Hitler made an agreement with Japan against Communism, then he signed a Non-Agression pact with Russia, in exchange giving them half of whatever he captured. After displaying autocratic movements, the Governments (British, Russian, French, German, Polish, etc) met. In return of Hitler not rampaging through most Europe, they gave him half of Czechoslovakia, note that the Czechs weren't in this meeting, so they were surprised when German soldiers marching in on them. Next Hitler defied the recent agreement. He sent out his army and conquered the rest of Czechoslovakia, as well as Austria, though these were not near the majority of the Allied forces in the war, as such, they let it pass. Next Hitler needed an excuse to invade Poland, but it was an Allied Country, ready to attack him if needs be. He planned a stage for a German in Polish Colours shoot a man pretending to be a German. On the 1st of September, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, though WWII had yet to start. The Allies wanted to accept the Peace Treaty Italy had proposed to stop Germans from invading Polish territory by letting keep what the stole from the Polish, however Britain, unlike the other Allies, wanted Germany to remove their presence completely from Poland. This caused Germany to keep on attacking, and on September the 3rd, The war was officially declared between Allied and Axis Powers. By Cian Perill War Breaks Out WW2 Allied Civilian Poster Continuing on, in April 1940, Germany launched attacks against Denmark and Norway to protect Iron Ore shipments from Sweden, in order to support the war effort for the Axis Forces. Denmark surrendered once the Capital was reached, while Norway took two long months of fighting to go down, despite Allied help. The British were discontented over the attacks on the North and this led to the replacement of the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain with Winston Churchill on 10 May 1940.
Meanwhile, under the command of Winston Churchill, the British invaded Iceland, in case of a German attack there, they would stand a better chance under English rule, though this attack never came. Automatic Pistols of WW2 By early June, Britain had to abandon Dunkirk, a northern port of France, to the Nazis, along with all of their fuel and heavy tanks. On the 10th of June, Italy invaded southern France, officially declaring war on the Allies. Paris proceeded to fall on the 14th of June, and 8 days later, France surrendered to the Axis Powers, ending the Battle of France. England then turned on their former ally, and bombarded the majority of the French Navy, to prevent Germany from using it. This is known as the Attack on Mers-el-Kébir, the port where the French Navy was. This was also a demonstration that Britain would keep on fighting the war, even if all of its allies fell. On the 19th of July, Hitler send out a peace agreement to the British. Britain rejected this, with Lord Halifax responding "there was in his speech no suggestion that peace must be based on justice, no word of recognition that the other nations of Europe had any right to self‑determination...". Following this, Germany began to directly fight Britain in the skies (Battle of Britain), to allow the German boats to cross the English Channel. The campaign failed and Germany made its first mistake throughout the war. The Axis Powers began the time of the war known as The Blitz. This was when German bombers flew over southern Britain cities and bombed then every night. In this period, 2 Million (2,000,000) houses were destroyed, and 1.2 million (1,200,000) were in London, though this was largely unaffected Britain, as they built Air Raid Sirens, used the shiny new Radar, and built Anderson Shelters for poor people to hide in during attacks. Throughout this period, the neutral United States was secretly backing China and the Western Allies by giving them money. Their navy grew in size and they exchanged American Destroyers for British Base. Franklin Roosevelt promised to keep America out of the war, though he took steps in order to prepare for it. In December 1940 he accused Hitler of planning world conquest and ruled out negotiations as useless, calling for the U.S. to become an "arsenal for democracy" and promoted the passage of Lend-Lease aid to support the British war effort. In January 1941 secret high level staff talks with the British began for the purposes of determining how to defeat Germany should the U.S. enter the war. They decided on a number of offensive policies, including an air offensive, the elimination of Italy, raids and the capture of positions to launch an offensive against Germany. At the end of September, 1940, Hitler added the USSR, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania to the Axis Forces. Hitler believed Britain's strength came from the belief that Russia and America will help them. Going from this, Hitler began massing troops around the Russian border. This was his second major mistake. He charged them through the border under the false accusation that the Russians were directly plotting against them. During the summer, the Axis made significant gains into Soviet territory, inflicting immense losses in both personnel and materiel. Germany Army High Command (GAHC) ordered the Germans to conquer Ukraine instead of marching straight to Moscow. This was an overwhelming success for the Axis Forces, and they wiped out four Soviet Armies in one fell swoop. In July, the UK and the Soviet Union formed a military alliance against Germany. The British and Soviets invaded Iran to secure the Persian Corridor and Iran's oil fields. A major offensive against Moscow had been renewed. After two months of fierce battles, the German army almost reached the outer suburbs of Moscow, where the exhausted troops were forced to suspend their offensive. Large territorial gains were made by Axis forces, but their campaign had failed to achieve its main objectives: two key cities remained in Soviet hands, the Soviet capability to resist was not broken, and the Soviet Union retained a considerable part of its military potential. Elsewhere, America sent Destroyers and Materials to Britain. Despite orders not to provoke war from Hitler, a German U-Boat opened fire upon an American Destroyer who had been tracking it. The Destroyer promptly blew up the U-Boat. The US had entered the fray. By Cian Perill This year,a student from our class,Eoghan Horgan, has brought in an historical artifact. It is a coin which is 50 years old.It was worth,in America, half a dollar. They are not used any more.On the back of it is an eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, and on the front side is the face of the former American president J.F.K. Eoghan brought it around to the class,it was very interesting. Samuel Marks 16/05/13 Here are two maths games for you to play at home. Click them and it will come up.
